SAMSUNG “JET LAG"
WIEDEN + KENNEDY PORTLAND
JET LAG, exists as part of my favorite cinematic genre — travelogue. It's the story of a young woman traveling through Hong Kong in her dream-like jet lag. And in this night-out adventure, she meets magnetic friends that transform her experience from foreign to familiar.
For this film, we had the joy of traveling to Hong Kong, a tangled web of contradictions. And despite immense shooting restriction and numerous challenges, we had a complete love affair with the city, meeting incredible local cast and crew, and keeping the vibe high.
From the jump, my production designer and I found ourselves living the film in our jet-lagged scout/exploration. And with the help of the wonderful young Argentinian actress, Ailin Salas, we were able to shape this magic into cinema.
And as often happens with these foreign productions we all wore many hats. Jade Healy on production design and stand in and writing, Mobolaji Dawodu on Costume design and street casting, Alwin Kuchler on the spiritual mission to do this city justice, Rod Smith wrangling the impossible on 1st AD, and our copywriter, Emma, was an invaluable translator. Back home Luke Lynch and Parallax Post did the edit, and Urs Furrer and A52 the post FX and Kath Raisch colored the film.
With love to HONG KONG,
Isaiah
