RAPHAEL SAADIQ "GOOD MAN"
COLUMBIA RECORDS
*Winner LA Music Video Festival (LAMVF) "Best Narrative Video"
*Nominated for MVPA Award 2012 "Best R&B Video"
*Nominated for UK VMA "Best Urban Video - International"
Loosely set in the early 1970's, Good Man opens in the wake of a devastating loss, with our hero's tormented lady, needing to move on by any means necessary - even if that means framing him for a heinous beating. I wrote Good Man around the time I was watching The Wire, so I had Chad Coleman (aka Cutty) in mind for the lead from the beginning, though I never expected him to actually accept the part. But we sent it to his people and he really responded to the character and story and that was it - he was in. The cool thing about Chad is he is so committed to his craft and works so hard to understand his character on deeper and deeper levels. Raphael Saadiq plays the narrator and inner life force of our hero, and the Good Man's girl is played by the incredible Yaya DeCosta. Like Chad, Yaya brought 110% to every frame and never complained. Ultimately, this film is an exploration into lust and longing, humility and social climbing the context of a couple falling apart and finding their way back together.
