This video came about as a collaboration between myself and Gogol singer, Eugene Hutz. Eugene is an incredibly passionate person with a real life immigration story to tell (in fact every person in his band did as well). For this video we really wanted to capture that spirit - especially in the wake of PL 480 in Arizona, which was obviously a very heated time for the immigration issue. So Eugene and I had a bunch of phone calls, and he told me about the many jobs he had when he first came here, which include day-laborer, dish washer, and like 20 others. I have always been a fan of Eugene's acting and wanted to show his story in an exciting and personal setting. So I built off of his stories until we locked the script. We shot this entire video in 1 hot Los Angeles day - hitting four locations like relay sprinters, with the camera strapped to my cinematographer’s body. For post, we colored this entirely in the very poorly constructed Red Cine. We went this route after we realized I was getting some interesting looks with a technique I call 'spazzing'. Supposedly this is Oliver Stone's favorite music video, but maybe that is just hearsay.
