The fable of an Encyclopedia CEO going a little crazy when his company sees a spike in orders, Click, Baby, Click was one of those rare times when all the elements came together without much fuss. The Goodby guys had a strong script and everyone was on the same page with what it needed to make it great. There were, of course, some bumps along the way, but we didn't over think any of it. Even the edit came together in two days, and barely changed from there till we locked.

Personally, this was my first chance to do a dialogue-driven commercial, so I really wanted the casting to be great, even though we didn't have big TV money to pay the actors. Luckily my casting director was down to call all these rad movie and TV actors and convinced them to bet on me as a "young horse," and to come do the spot. The real surprise however, was Michael Lerner, who had been nominated for an Academy Award for Barton Fink, and lent some real weight and gravitas to the world. He was awesome, albeit a touch unruly, giving us a wild range of performances—and at the end of the day, when we were losing light, he drilled my younger cast like a sergeant, yelling at them, in character, as if he couldn’t hear them. Asking them to say it again, again, again. I got about twenty takes in two minutes, and the younger actors just had these stunned grins on their faces when we wrapped.
