A VIOLET DEATH

MUSIC: BECK "WAVES"

A VIOLET DEATH is loosely based on the true accounts of women known as the “White Stocking”; Chechyan biathletes who were forced to serve their military as snipers. Our story follows Maggie, as she empathetically tracks her mark.

The goal for this film was to creating something a bit free - with image making at the foreground, and atmosphere on all sides. The haunting soundtrack is by BECK, and the film was shot in the white sand dunes and deep caves of southern New Mexico, on 35mm film. This film was also a reunion of my MGMT team of Cinematographer Bradford Young and Stylist Mindy Le Brock (who oversaw production design with Chris Gooris), and styled the film. The artist/actress Isabelle Albuquerque plays our lead and wardrobe was provided by Kenzo.
